We are NGO “The Child’s Crossroad” from Tbilisi (Georgia). Our history is not long. We founded in October 2008, after army conflict in Tshinvali and Gori. After this time we are working on psychological and social rehabilitation of children, who was suffered in this conflict: who lost their parents or who was internally displaced and social poor. Our main goal – to help every child in their integration in “adults’ society as civil education persons, who will be acquaint with their rights and know ways – how to protect them. In frame of our organization we founded Children’s University of Democracy, University already started its program. We had some trainings on democracy and civil thematic – “ABC of Democracy”, “Democracy as style of life” and other.

• high levels of illiteracy, poverty and unemployment;
• limited access to healthcare services in rural areas and rural people’s limited ability to promote and maintain their own healthcare systems;
• the psychosocial and economic effects of HIV and AIDS on rural communities;
• the plight of orphans and vulnerable children who are unable to continue with their education;
• food insecurity and malnutrition
SUMMARY OF PROJECT PROPOSAL
The backbone of Kenyan economy is subsistent and rain-fed agriculture. 85% of the population livelihood is contingent upon this sector. But, climate extremes shackle the livelihood and economy of the country as it is closely linked to recurrent drought. Compounding the problem, drought and flood dictates our lives. Food is unsecured; poverty and health problems are prevalent. Climate change makes this situation more serious.
The decline in soil fertility in turn is mainly caused by removing or not planting the trees, notably, the indigenous trees which are important for nitrogen fixation. In order to promote the fertility and productivity of the farmlands, one of the feasible intervention areas is the introduction of on-farm and homestead forestry practices. It is therefore imperative to opt to multipurpose large-scale to Combat Climate Change through Promotion of Afforestation and Agro-forestry project ameliorate the impacts of recurrent drought in the country through Legume-based agro-forestry also serves multiple purposes such as fixing nitrogen (increased crop production) and enhances carbon pool and counter balance desertification. Pods and leaves can be used as fodder for livestock. Vegetation cover increment on farmlands enhances carbon sequestration, and climate mitigation. Moreover, intensification of agricultural practices is one of the priorities in the National Action Plan to combat desertification Convention in Kenya. The project has the following objectives to achieve it desired goals to tackle climate change in Kenya.
Objectives
• To build the capacity of the farmers for improved soil management through the promotion of awareness, raising or availing indigenous and multi- purpose trees and provision of technical advice on the indigenous trees seedling production and planting;
• To promote legume-based agro-forestry and the growing of fruit trees as a way to contribute to the reduction of poverty, improvement of the welfare of the rural populations and sustainable natural resources management towards viable sustainable development in the region.
• To identify high-risk areas for immediate soil erosion control using a geographic information system;
• To realize food self-sufficiency and food security of population in the region.
The activities we want to carry out, first is to get detail assessment of needs and current situation in whole region, undertake consultations with all stakeholders, create awareness, identification of potential and target areas; acquisition of facilities; Capacity building in terms of development of skilled human resource, infrastructure and facilities including institutional strengthening is a prerequisite for planning and implementing adaptation to climate change.
Specific human resource capacity needs required includes short and long term training including specialization in the areas of agroforestry, forestry. High-risk areas of soil erosion, environmental management and awareness program to farmers and forestry and agricultural extension workers, establishment of community tree nurseries in Busia district.
HOW IT IS CONNECTED TO CLIMATE CHANGE
This project is most important asset, if supported and implemented it will provide the basis for human survival and development, and contribute to global biodiversity. How it is connected to climate change, it will reduce the greenhouse effect (through their capacity for sequestrating and retaining carbon); stabilize microclimates; sediments; minimize natural disasters such as drought and floods; recharge ground water and help the country to pursue sustainable development that contributes for the protection of the earth’s climate.
WHAT YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE
This project initiative, which is in response to the needs commonly expressed by rural communities, will significantly advance economic development by increasing family income by over 150 percent, help meet environmental objectives by improving soil and water quality, improve health by offering a more diverse diet of fruits and nuts, mitigate urban migration and improve community relations, and tackle climate change.

Greetings from Centre for Promotion of Equal Rights (CPER)!
I take this opportunity to introduce CPER- Centre for Promotion of
Equal Rights. This is a new initiative, dedicated to reach out the
Dalit children and women.
The founder- director has been in the field of Dalit Human Rights
Activism from his collage days where he, himself been under the attack
of caste based discrimination. After several years of working with
NGOs and Human Rights organizations, he understood Dalit Children &
Women are being used by such organizations in the project but there
too was discrimination while implementing such projects/programmes
held. He being a Dalit, he had to confront with the non-dalit NGOs
heads who exploited his skills and popularity among dalit children and
women.
In this circumstance, the founder of CePER, Mr. Thomas Alva. Edison,
decided to register an organization by which he can work for the
emancipation of the Dalits in the most backward district of Tamil
Nadu, Cuddalore.
As young organization, at present 5Child Development Centres (CDCs)
are being run by his own contribution, in order to sustain and
establish more such CDCs, CePER is in need of your support and so
kindly send me your funding guideline or Formate.
Best Regards.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Rita, thank you so much for sharing your important work in Tiblisi. It sounds like the Child’s Crossroad is really making a difference in Georgia. Our small grants programme is to support the local environmental actions of children in their communities and are up to $50 each. An online application will become live in a few weeks time, but until then, I would suggest referencing the Take Action Now publication which is now posted on our home page and for the children in your group to consider the goals and objectives for their project. Very best wishes from the ECI team!
Dearest Priscilla, of course we are familiar with the Little Angels of the Environment in Cameroon, I believe that we met in Yaounde at the UNEP Children’s Conference in 2007 and we’ve featured a picture of your chidlren singing on the site (not sure if it is presently there!) Please take a look at the Take Action Now guide which is now posted on the home page. Grants are up to $50 and need to be submitted by children between the ages of 10-16 affiliated with a youth organization. So, indeed, your NGO can support a team of child applicants. An online application will be available here in a few weeks. Until then, perhaps you can follow the guidebook and support the kids to set their goals and objectives for the project. All the best!
Dear Sir,
We are a small CBO based in Kisumu City working for children for their socioeconomic development and their child rights. Our CBO was founded after the 2007 post election violence that left abount 1500 people dead and 600,000 homeless.After the post election violence we have been involved in psychosocial rehabilitation of children who lost their parents, guiardians and who were displaced internally and in the process of this we try to intergrate these children into the society.
